Rochon was the child of Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She was born in Torrance, Los Angeles, to Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She graduated in 1982 of Cerritos High School in Cerritos, California. She completed her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, with a minor in sociology and theater at California State University Dominguez hills (CSUDH). In the year 2016, Rochon came back to CSUDH as the keynote speaker at graduation ceremonies of the College of Arts and Humanities

Ullerup's debut role was as Julia Brynn on the remake the television show Battlestar Galactica in 2006, which aired on Sci Fi Channel. In the initial two seasons on Sanctuary the actress was Ashley Magnus until the character was removed. The reason for her departure was a source that caused heated discussion among the viewers, with a majority of them wanting her brought to the show in subsequent episodes until the show was canceled in the year 2012. Ullerup was cast in the year 2016 as Bree O'Brien for Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup appeared as Maggie Thomas as the estranged ex-wife of Michael Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact. From 2016 Ullerup has been playing a regular role as Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered films series.
